Whatcha drinkin'?

posted Jun 07, 2011 00:46:36 by KayteMcCoy
So what is in your mug today? Coffee? Tea? What kind?

My husband and I get into ruts, drinking tea for months then we get on a coffee kick. We did tea most of the winter, a couple times a day... I don't even want to think about how much sugar I consume in the name of tea! I love chai spice tea (I like Stash brand). Right now, I'm loving French Vanilla Coffee (Millstone brand). Can you tell I'm picky? My husband just likes black... black tea, black coffee. Plain and boring. I like vanilla creamer and sugar in both tea and coffee.

So how about you?

That sounds like dessert not coffee! (I'd probably love it!)

exactly why I drink it this way! I never even tasted a cup of coffee until I was 50 years old, but my husband seemed to enjoy his so much so I tried it and now I enjoy a half of a cup of this yummy stuff when I meet with God each morning.

I'm with you -- coffee should taste like dessert or it's not worth the interest. =)

I usually drink a cup of herbal tea each morning. I make my own with different herbs like peppermint, rose hips, hibiscus, gingko. Wonderful-tasting stuff, good for you, and really perks you up in the morning! I also love BulkHerbStore's chai blend (http://www.bulkherbstore.com/Black-Spice-Chai-Tea) with brown sugar and lots of milk. It is so, so delicious.

I should branch out and try chai tea too. So many have such nice things to say about it! Have you ever drank any of the dessert teas that are made? Someone suggested "Vanilla Caramel" to me and it sounded yummy.

Starbucks has the best Chai tea... I think they call it a chai tea latte. I really enjoy those best. Dunkin Donuts has one they call Vanilla Chai... it's good but not the real deal. Super sugary.

Have you ever tried making your Chai yourself? I'm not into it every day (I prefer my coffee, half-and-half, and sugar-free caramel syrup. :) ), but it is very worth it and not very difficult. Here's a basic recipe I looked up online.

In a clean deep dish container, put 3/4 cup water, 1/2 cup milk (Half-and-Half), 1 full teaspoon black tea and spices as follows.

1 pod cardomon
2 pea size fresh ginger (mulched)
1-2 big size whole black pepper
1/8 to 1/6 cinnemon stick
On a hard piece of paper, crush all of them together. Immediately put this mix in dish with water and milk. Keep them on heater plate or gas range for about 15 minutes, keep stirring continuously. Add sugar to your taste. Drain on strainer and serve in a cup.

I buy most of my spices (like cardamon pods) at health food stores where I can get a better product and price.

Coffee is definitely my treat! Sweet and creamy! I have a literal coffee break after all the kids have cleaned their rooms, dressed and had their breakfast! I'm always ready for a mini-vacation by then. What is a keurig??

Hi Kayte, I kept trying to make a comment on your blog post and I must not have the right "credentials" since I'm not on blogger :). That happens to me on a couple of blogs. Anyway, I just wanted to say that you and I must be kindred spirits and we definitely enjoy the same kind of mini vacations. I can't nap either except on Sunday afternoon when I have time to get into my pjs and under the covers for a few hours. But I do enjoy my little decorator magazine minutes and my walks outside and I love to sit in the book store and read. Love, Mrs. Fink
